Hey guys! Kaya here. My mom’s been sick so she didn’t have time to type up a cute post about me this weekend. Plus, she’s gotta do something called “write that damn IEP before tomorrow morning.” I’m helping her out by posting myself. Look at me! I’m cute!

Now, go and see some other friends – Smalls, Rufus, Ben, Ted, Gus, and Zapp!

So, I actually took the day off today. Hard to believe, but it’s true. Of course, my enjoyment of my day has been slightly dampened by the raging sore throat and congestion I woke up to this morning. I guess the gods wanted me to justify my “sick” day and so sent me some germs. Thanks guys.
Not to worry, though. So what if I didn’t get to go shopping. The truth is, I probably wouldn’t have left the house anyway. Instead, I’ve been lounging on the couch, interneting, watching Buffy, and reading InStyle. I’m also planning on spending a bit sitting out in the yard since it’s turning out to be a beautiful day.
I’m not really sure if I’m really doing the whole “mental health day” right, but I’m ok with that. (Yes, I realize there’s no “right” way, but you’re dealing with an overly-neurotic type-A personality here. Cut me some slack).
I’m curious, how do you spend your mental health days?
Oh, and please click here. I’d really like to win a free blog design. You’d be doing your part to pull me out of my funk. It’s nice to help out your friends.

I’m seriously contemplating doing something that I’ve never done before…at least not as a professional. I’m thinking about taking a mental health day. I really don’t feel like getting into it all, at least not now. Suffice it to say, I never miss work. I’ve been sent home from work puking before, and I’ve stayed home with a fever of 103, but I never miss work just because. Really there is no point to this post…just me thinking out loud and worrying over whether or not I should take the day off. Because that’s what I do. Worry. A lot.
Oh. And you should check this out since my post was so lame!

Our dogs sleep in their kennels at night. Please don’t e-mail me telling me how mean I am that I don’t let them sleep in the bed. Dogs are den animals by nature and enjoy a snuggly, secure, routine place to sleep.
Rufus has been sleeping in his kennel since the first night we got him. He cried a lot the first night, and it broke my heart. It was so tempting to just pick him up and put him in bed with us. I’m glad we didn’t, though, because now I can have my bed all to myself! (Well, I do share with Ted.) At first, when we put Rufus to bed, one of us would have to lay on the floor next to his kennel until he fell asleep…usually it was Ted. He’s such a good daddy! Before long, Rufus was sleeping like a big boy. Just one treat and in he goes for the night.
Now, if we don’t go to bed early enough, Rufus puts himself to bed:

You can see that he really appreciated me using the flash to take his picture while he was sound asleep!
Be sure to visit our other puppy friends this week — Smalls, Kaya, Ben, Ted, Gus, and Zapp! And don’t forget our new friends Edie and Calvin!

On Saturday night I actually went out. It’s not something I often do, but I went out with some friends for drinks. Didn’t make it home until 1 a.m., but that was fine by me because I knew I could sleep in.
Or so I thought. I woke up at 6:30 to an odd, percussive sound. Not a banging or a tapping, really, more of a dull thud at fairly regular intervals. It was too early for neighbors to be up banging around, so I sent Ted to investigate (No, I wasn’t going to get out of bed myself).
Ted returns a moment later to report, “It’s a bird flying into the window downstairs.”
“Really? Are you sure?”
“Yup. It just keeps flying at the window.”
Well, now I was intrigued (and awake) so it was worth getting out of bed to see. I headed downstairs, and sure enough, a robin was flying at our window. I walked close enough for the bird to see me, and it flew away. Only as far as our fence though. As soon as I moved away, that bird came back!
He’s still here. Banging against the window. What is the matter with this stupid, stupid bird? The internet says that it’s mating season. Apparently, he wants to mate with the bird in the window!
Go away stupid bird. Go away!

Our couch has a large triangular-shaped section called “The Cuddler.” I’m not making it up. That’s the actual name for said couch section. The Cuddler is my favorite place in the world. I snuggle up in there with my pile of blankets and read, watch tv, internet, or nap. I love being in the Cuddler.
Kaya, is also a fan of the Cuddler, especially after someone has been sitting there for a while warming it up for her. Usually when I’m in the Cuddler, Kaya lays on the floor right up against the couch. Occasionally, she tries to sit on top of me, but usually we each have our own relaxing space. However, there are those times that I get up from the Cuddler to grab a snack or go potty. That’s when she pounces. Suddenly, my happy place is overtaken by a 60 dog who is not willing to move.

Of course, she had to teach her brother to join in on the couch-hogging fun as well. The more dog in the Cuddler, the less space for mommy!
Do our internet buddies kick their mommies off of the couch? Visit them to find out — Smalls, Rufus, Ben, Ted, Gus, and Zapp! Special shout outs to Edie and Calvin who really need to join our weekly parade of doggie posts!

So, this little blog of mine is going to be experiencing some big changes thanks to Jess at Delicious Design Studio. I’m very excited about it, but I’d be even more excited about it if I could win my blog design for free!
Jess is having a contest to see who can create the most traffic to her newly redesigned site. You can help me win by clicking on any of the links I have here to her site.
Even though my design hasn’t been started yet, working with Jess has been great! She doesn’t mind if you pester her with a million stupid questions. And let’s not forget that her designs are gorgeous! So, what are you waiting for? Head over to the new Delicious Design Studio and check out Jess’s work. You won’t regret it….and neither will I!
