Jamie recently asked for some makeup advice, and the truth is that I need some too. I’m on the hunt for the perfect lipgloss. I can never seem to find it, so my lips just go bare. So, this is what I’m looking for:
- Not sticky — Anything overly sticky is a deal-breaker for me.
- Pretty, subtle color
- Not too shiny — I’m not going clubbing, just to work.
- Reasonably priced — I’m willing to pay up to $15, maybe even $20, for something that’s good.
Can anyone help me? I’ve been on this quest for quite some time! I’d really like to have some pretty lips!

I use C.O. Bigelow’s Mentha Lip Shine. It’s clear but I know they do have some that have a bit of color. I will be checking back on this post, I’m interested in what people have to say too!

I like MAC’s lip care line (not lip glass – way way too sticky!). Specifically, the tinted lip conditioners.
I also like Bigelow’s line. You can get them at Bath and Body Works in like a dozen different flavors.

I, too, like CO Bigelow’s. I have one that looks like it would be a ver dramatic color, but it’s really not. They are pretty safe, and if you want less shine, use less. More shine, use more. I like a lot of shine.
If you go to B&BWorks and sign up for their e-mails, they’ll usually e-mail you a coupon for a free lip gloss (they used to-things might have changed). You might even be able to sign up on their website.
FREE lip gloss is AWESOME lip gloss!

If you don’t want shiny and sticky, I would strongly recommend lip tint rather than gloss.
I know this is hugely unhelpful, but my favorite lip product lately is a tint that I got for Christmas. I think it came from Bath and Body Works, and i know it was from their holiday line because it’s called Pumpkin Pie Paradise. It’s one of those with color on one side and shine/glitter on the other. I just ignore the glitter side and only use the color — and the color is perfect. Unfortunately, of course, since it was a holiday thing it’s gonna be way harder to find this time of year. (See how I’m really not helpful?)
On a possibly slightly more helpful note, the Origins Lip Tint I ended up with after posting a similar plea last year was great . . . except it dried the hell out of my lips. So if you are prone to dry, chapped lips, I would maybe stay away from Origins.
